Jana Thiel

Dr. Jana Thiel worked as a senior researcher at the Chair between 2017 and 2023. She obtained her PhD from EPFL, Switzerland and has held research positions at ESADE Business School and Maastricht University. As of 2024, Jana is an Associate Professor at EDHEC Business School, France.

Jana’s research is focused on developing novel theoretical insight into how entrepreneurial leaders conceptualize and implement entrepreneurial strategies and how they mobilize and structure team production under uncertainty. Based in an engaged scholarship philosophy, she derives her inquiries typically from a dialogue with practice and aspires to produce research with theoretical value that can also be used in the classroom to inspire entrepreneurs and managers.

Mara Guerra

Dr. Mara Guerra worked as a senior researcher at the Chair between 2020 and 2022. She obtained her PhD from Imperial College Business School, London. As of September 2022, Mara has taken up an Assistant Professor position at Bayes Business School, London.

Mara's research focuses on the drivers of technology commercialization and entrepreneurial strategy during industry emergence and under conditions of demand heterogeneity. Specifically, she is interested in how both prior experience of the venture team and industry-​level factors generate cognitive biases that affect choices on the product market and technology-​to-market linkages.

Lien de Cuyper

Dr. Lien de Cuyper worked as a senior researcher at the Chair between 2016 and 2021. She obtained her PhD from Imperial College Business School, London. As of September 2021, Lien has taken up an Assistant Professor position at Amsterdam Business School (University of Amsterdam), the Netherlands.

Lien’s research mainly focuses on social ventures, hybridity, individual and organizational identity. She also has an interest in corporate accelerators, and in the management of activities that happen on the nexus of corporations and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Archita Sarmah

Dr. Archita Sarmah worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair between January 2018 and February 2019. Archita obtained her PhD in Management (Strategy) from ESSEC Business School, France. She also hold a Master in Management degree from ESSEC and a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree from Assam Engineering College, India. Post her undergraduate studies, she had worked as a Software Engineer for a couple of years in India and France.

Research Interests: market re-​entry after initial exit, organizational learning from failure experience, strategic alliances, multimarket contact

 

Alex Murray

Dr. Alexander Murray holds a PhD in Management and Organization from the University of Washington. He worked at the Chair of Entrepreneurship as a senior researcher between March 2018 and February 2019. Alex' research aims to develop novel theoretical frameworks to explain how early-​stage ventures mobilize resources, enroll initial stakeholders, and coordinate activities. Specifically, his research investigates empirical and theoretical puzzles stemming from the application of emergent technologies to mobilize support for and coordinate activities within early-​stage ventures.

Research contexts: crowdfunding, blockchain-​based organizations, two-​sided platforms, resource-​constrained environments

Anne Ter Wal

Dr. Anne Ter Wal worked as a Senior Researcher at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zurich until 2019. Most of his research focuses on the role of social networks in innovation, with a particular emphasis on networks in geographical clusters, and networks of scientists and engineers within and between companies. He also has an interest in the management of creativity, in particular in the role of bootlegging and other deviant forms of creativity in driving innovative outcomes.

Johan Bruneel

Dr. Johan Bruneel worked as a senior researcher at the Chair of Entrepreneurship between 2016 and 2018. Johan started his career as a researcher at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School and Ghent University. From 2005 to 2009, Johan worked towards a PhD in Management Science with an fellowship from the Intercollegiate Center for Management Science. Johan further enhanced his research skills during stays at Marshall School of Business (US), Nottingham University Business School (UK) and Imperial College Business School (UK). His research projects can be grouped in three related areas: international entrepreneurship, strategic entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship.
